Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Services is a major teaching hospital and tertiary referral centre, providing excellent healthcare to south-eastern Sydney and specialist health and medical services to NSW.
We have 450 inpatient beds and almost 3,000 staff. Each year we care for more than 60,000 patients in our Emergency Department and around 50,000 patients are admitted to the inpatient units of our hospital. We also have a busy outpatient service and rural outreach service and provide more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year.

Nuclear Medicine and PET Department
Our Nuclear Medicine and PET Department provides a wide range of Nuclear Medicine tests and therapies for adults and children. We are accredited to provide a full range of Nuclear Medicine and PET services and are approved to train Nuclear Medicine Technologists, Specialist Doctors, Physicists and Radiopharmaceutical Scientists.
Some of the more common procedures we perform include:
- Heart scans
- Kidney scans
- Bone scans
- Stomach, bowel, biliary and liver scans
- Lung scans
- Thyroid and parathyroid scans
- Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans
- Radio-iodine thyroid therapy.
What you'll be doing
The primary responsibility of the Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) in Nuclear Medicine is to provide clinical care, under appropriate supervision, to patients requiring Nuclear Medicine services in a complex clinical environment. This position will provide experience in Nuclear Medicine techniques and opportunities for autonomous practice commensurate with the level of experience of the incumbent.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
- Minimum of two (2) years postgraduate clinical experience, with desired interest in Nuclear Medicine and PET.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment with history and physical examination skills, including paediatric and cardiology experience.
- Demonstrated resuscitation skills and interest in Nuclear Medicine.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively, including excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated adept ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Demonstrated evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education, including an interest in research.
