Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. The Nepean Campus has recently experienced tremendous growth and aims to support communities within and outside of Sydney’s western suburbs, providing world-class clinical facilities, services, and care.

The Nepean Critical Care Unit is seeking to engage a Senior Dietitian who will cover a maternity leave vacancy. As the Senior Dietitian, you will deliver, plan, and evaluate high-level clinical nutrition services to Intensive Care clients of Nepean Hospital. You will utilise independent professional judgement, high level clinical expertise, and knowledge in critical care dietetics in order to provide high quality, evidenced-based nutritional care of patients in Nepean ICU. The role will act as a consultant to medical, nursing, and other staff across the district in critical care nutritional management and work collaboratively with other health professionals and agencies in the continuity of care for ICU patients.

The Senior Dietitian will also take part in monitoring, reviewing, and developing relevant clinical nutrition policies and protocols. This is a maternity relief position and should the permanent incumbent require an early return from maternity leave, proper notice will be given to cease this temporary assignment.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Nutrition and Dietetics and eligible for full membership of the Dietitians’ Association of Australia
  2. Up-to-date knowledge, skills and competence in the nutritional management of critical care patients.
  3. Extensive experience and competence in the nutritional management of critical care patients.
  4. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and teaching skills. With high level skills in staff clinical supervision and leadership.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a specialised multidisciplinary team that provides services to critical care patients.
  6. Experience in providing successful supervision and training to dietitians, Dietitian assistants and students.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to professional development and experience with initiating and leading quality improvement projects. With professional development and quality projects specific to critical care an advantage.
