About the Opportunity

The role of the Senior Aboriginal Health Worker Palliative Care Cultural Support is to support the District-wide RPA Virtual Hospital (RPAvirtual) to ensure respectful and culturally appropriate end of life and palliative care for Aboriginal people. You will be working in a multi-disciplinary team that is providing community-based palliative care to patients with chronic and degenerative diseases in the last two years of life. You are expected to provide cultural support to patients, their families and carers, as well as cultural advice to RPAvirtual clinicians and other community-based service providers. You will also support Aboriginal patients as they transition between the inpatient and community settings regarding culturally safe practices as part of the care coordination process.

Ideal Candidate

  • Holds a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or relevant qualifications/experience in an appropriate health-related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal people in relation to grief and loss and Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing.
  • A current NSW Drivers Licence (P1 and P2 acceptable) and willingness to drive.

 

This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
