The Role

 

To provide a responsive community based assessment and intervention service for young people with complex mental health needs in contact with the criminal justice system and their families. Providing mental health assessment, intervention, and care coordination by incorporating discipline specific recommendations to the identification and formulation for young people and their families who are experiencing crisis or mental health complexity.
 
The Safeguards Service is a community based team that provide rapid, mobile, intensive, and flexible short term delivery of skilled evidence based interventions to improve outcomes for young people in contact with the criminal justice system.

 

 

Essential Requirements:

 

  • Provision of mental health assessment and intervention to a range of behavioural and emotional disorders to prevent or relieve distress or dysfunction through holistic comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, case formulation and treatment across a range of health care settings.
  • Bachelor or post graduate degree in Speech Pathology and eligibility for practicing membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Experience in providing assessment and intervention to children and young people with cognitive impairment or neurodevelopmental disorders with communication deficits.
  • Demonstrate experience in managing a paediatric communication disorders caseload.
  • Recognised consultancy skills and ability to provide education and advice on discipline specific interventions.
  • Demonstrated skills in working with children, young people and families as well as liaising with schools regarding care planning and speech therapy interventions.
  • Valid unrestricted Driver Licence for use in NSW and Australia.
  • Valid NSW Employee Working with Children Check.
  • May require extended hours during the week and on weekends and travelling to regional NSW sites to provide in-reach.
