  1. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as being Aboriginal and be accepted in the community as such. All applicants must supply either a letter of Aboriginality signed under the common seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation such as Land Council or Elders group, Aboriginal Medical Service or a letter on letterhead from a Local Aboriginal Land Council demonstrating membership of the Council. Exemption is claimed under Section 14D of the Anti-discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
  2. A minimum of three years’ experience and a; Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or other equivalent qualification providing eligibility for membership of AASW qualifications; or a Bachelor’s degree in Counselling; or current full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia; or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer such as a Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health); a Bachelor Social Science (Djirruwang programme) or related field; or have completed an ECAV qualification pathway- Graduate Certificate in Human and Community Services (Interpersonal Trauma).
  3. Demonstrated ability to create Aboriginal community connections, engagement and collaboration to affect outcomes with an understanding of intergenerational trauma, contextual and causal factors for violence, abuse and neglect and the principles of cultural safety.
  4. Demonstrated understanding and skills in child centred, family focussed counselling, support and case management to address problematic or harmful sexual behaviours with young children and their carers.
  5. Demonstrated ability to provide culturally responsive counselling services to individuals and their families and demonstrated understanding of the legal and policy framework governing child protection in NSW.
  6. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills in combination with a demonstrated ability to work as part of a small therapeutic team.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to clinical and cultural supervision and professional education, and if relevant, to application experience by providing clinical supervision and leading education and teaching to staff and/or students.
  8. Hold a current driver's license valid in Australia and willingness to travel.
