About The Opportunity
This is a unique opportunity to work alongside a Clinical Academic and other professionals in the SWS Obstetric Research Unit. 

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn and develop their research skills in a supportive environment and alongside some of the best clinicians in the Obstetrics speciality.  

What you'll be doing
The midwife/nurse is a responsible and accountable professional who works in partnership with women to give the necessary support, care and advice during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period, to conduct births on the midwife's own responsibility and to provide care for the newborn and the infant.

This position will be working specifically for the SWSLHD Obstetric Research Unit to conduct research activities related to obstetrics, midwifery and maternal and fetal health. The position will facilitate the recruitment of research participants, collection, collation, safe storage and contribute to analysis of research data.


Where you'll be working
Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.

The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.

Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.

Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the University of NSW and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.

Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse/ Registered Midwife with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  2. Demonstrated recent experience as a Registered Midwife/Nurse in an environment appropriate to the relevant specialty
  3. Demonstrated ability to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, families, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs
  5. Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise
  6. Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of evidenced based midwifery care
  7. Demonstrated understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace
  8. Sound understanding of the research process
  9. Must possess a valid Australian Drivers Licence (excluding learner driver's licences). If not already in possession, a NSW Drivers Licence must be obtained within 3 months of appointment.
