An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified midwife to join the Liverpool Hospital Antenatal/Gynaecology Ward.

The Midwifery Team at Liverpool Hospital provides one of the best Maternity and Birthing facilities in NSW. With numerous models of care available to women and their families, the options for growth and development for midwives is endless. The midwifery team is supportive of empowering mothers in their pregnancies, labour and post-partum periods and seek to allow mothers to have natural, safe and informed births. With the highest rate of vaginal births in Australia (Women’s and Children’s HealthCare Australia Collaborative, 2021), Liverpool Hospital Midwifery prides itself on providing comprehensive and innovative holistic care for women, enabling them to have the birth of their choice.

Over 3000 families’ access pregnancy and birth care at Liverpool Hospital each year. We are proud of our commitment to provide a service that meets the varied and individualised needs for all women and their families throughout their pregnancy, birth and postnatal journey. Liverpool Hospital is a level 6 tertiary referral hospital and a centre of excellence where women and babies from throughout New South Wales are referred for care of complex pregnancies.

Liverpool Hospital is a major teaching hospital and active research programs in each of our specialties ensure that the staff we train and the care we provide continues to be evidence based and world class. The Liverpool Women’s and Newborn Health service is a large dynamic organisation demonstrating;

  • The highest vaginal birth rate compared to all Level 6 services within the Women’s and Children’s HealthCare Australia Collaborative. 
  • The highest rate of unassisted vaginal births for Level 6 service within the Women’s and Children’s HealthCare Australia Collaborative. 
  • The lowest rate of Caesarean section for a Level 6 service within the Women’s and Children’s HealthCare Australia Collaborative. 


The Liverpool Women's and Newborn Health team are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of all women and newborn infants. We provide specialist services in maternity, gynaecology, women's cancer and the care of newborn infants. Our patients range from tiny premature babies to mature women and our principles for the provision of care are the same for all. We pride ourselves on:

Liverpool Hospital is a centre of excellence for women with complicated pregnancies. Each year many women are transferred to our unit from around New South Wales for care.


What You'll be Doing:

The midwife is a responsible and accountable professional who works in partnership with women to give the necessary support, care and advice during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period, to conduct births on the midwife's own responsibility and to provide care for the newborn and the infant.


Where You'll Be Working:

  • Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.
  • The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.
  • Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.
  • Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the University of NSW and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.
  • Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

    1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Midwife with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
    2. Demonstrated recent experience as a Registered Midwife in an environment appropriate to the relevant specialty
    3. Demonstrated ability to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive
    4. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, families, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs
    5. Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise
    6. Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of evidenced based midwifery care
    7. Demonstrated understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace.
