We are looking to recruit passionate Registered Midwives to join our friendly team at Home at RPA Hospital!

About the Role
You will be working at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. It is one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history of serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities. Our facilities and services are world class and our staff are dedicated, innovative and caring.

The Aboriginal Midwifery Group Practice is a Midwifery Continuity of Care (MCoC) model which provides women with a primary midwife during the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal period. Women who are eligible will identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander or are pregnant and their baby will identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. The MGP midwife will provide clinical, cultural, educational and psychological support as well as enhancing the seamless transition to child and family health nursing and to other services or agencies as required. The MGP midwife will also have the opportunity to work with women who are not Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, when there is space within their caseload.

The MGP midwife will demonstrate a broad range of midwifery skills and knowledge to provide and coordinate woman-centred, evidence-informed, high quality, midwifery care (consistent with NSW and SLHD policies, procedures and standards).

Midwives will be required to work a 7 day, rotating on-call roster as specified in the Pilot Annualised Salary agreement. Each midwife will provide antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care for approximately 30 women per year. Key features of this model include support for the emotional, cultural, and spiritual wellbeing of the woman, her family, and the community; continuity of care; individualised antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care; multidisciplinary collaboration; education and counselling.

The MGP midwife will work in a small team of midwives and work collaboratively with the CMC for Aboriginal Women and Babies and the Aboriginal Health Worker. The MGP midwife can provide intrapartum care in the low risk RPA Birth Centre or the RPA Delivery Unit. Midwives are supported to gain competency in advanced clinical skills including venepuncture/cannulation, speculum examination, perineal repair, and DAWN newborn assessments.
