Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the Visiting Medical Officer position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District. This position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of Anaesthesia & Perioperative Medicine.
Successful applicants will be responsible for the provision of anaesthesia, perioperative, pain management and resuscitation services, as well as research and undergraduate/postgraduate teaching and supervision as appropriate. Participation is required in the out of hours on-call roster and the PACE/ALS calls as well as pre-admission clinic and pre-operative assessment.
The VMO is also responsible for the maintenance of quality of all aspects of their service delivery and the efficient use of resources within WSLHD.
This appointment is for the current quinquennium which ends 30 June 2027.
Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District.
The principal goals of the Department of Anaesthesia are (1) to provide relief to sick and injured persons through the provision of care and treatment and (2) to promote, protect and maintain the health of the community.
The Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine is responsible for the provision of anaesthesia, perioperative, pain management and resuscitation services, as well as research and undergraduate/postgraduate teaching as appropriate. This will include but not limited to operating suite, radiology, birthing unit, endoscopy, acute pain rounds, oral health and the cardiac catheter laboratory. The department operates out of hours on-call rosters, PACE/ALS calls, pre-admission clinic and preoperative assessments in its daily allocations.
Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months are eligible to apply. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997 and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014.

Selection Criteria
1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the ANZCA or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997.
2. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable)
3. Sound clinical knowledge in anaesthesia and perioperative medicine demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
4. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
o High level interpersonal and communication skills.
o Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
o Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.
o Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision
5. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
