Department of Anaesthetics
Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). The position(s) will be located at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals with the Department of Anaesthesia.
Successful applicants should be fully trained anaesthetists with an appropriately recognised skill base by national or international societies.
Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months, may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.
Applicants will be competent in the following areas: provision of anaesthesia, pain management, perioperative medicine, obstetric anaesthesia, quality assurance, research, and general medical and specialty training. The Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) is also responsible for the maintenance of quality, of all aspects of their service delivery and the efficient use of resources within Blacktown Mount Druitt Hospital (BMDH).
Senior Medical Staff are expected to provide consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient and on-call specialty services as determined and required by the facility.
Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997 and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014.
Selection Criteria
Please outline how you satisfy the selection criteria listed below. In addressing the selection criteria, include any relevant skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience:
· Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (or equivalent, or be eligible for FANZCA within the next 6 months) as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. A commitment to providing on-call services to the Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals’ anaesthetic department.
· Sound clinical knowledge in the practice of Anaesthesia as demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
· Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
o Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
o Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.
· Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
· Recent clinical experience in a centre accredited for ANZCA fellowship training, or equivalent and the maintenance of continuing professional development
