Provisional Fellow positions in Adolescent and Addiction Medicine are available at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, and The Children's Hospital at Westmead for the 2026 Clinical Year, from 02 February 2026 to 31 January 2027.
The Provisional Fellowship is designed for an Advanced Trainee in Paediatrics or Child and Adolescent Psychiatry who is looking for experience in Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine and Addiction Medicine. Trainees will gain clinical, leadership and research experience in this area. The position may be accredited towards advanced training in general paediatrics (developmental), community child health or Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine Training (AYAM) with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. There is an active commitment to teaching, research and publication. The Fellow is supported to attend educational sessions within the department for both adolescent and addiction medicine.
The Fellow will gain experience in Adolescent Medicine, Drug and Alcohol consultation liaison and outpatient services for children and adolescents affected by drug and alcohol use. The NSW CICADA Centre is based within the Department of Adolescent Medicine and has a multidisciplinary team offering care and intervention for children and adolescents affected by drugs and alcohol. The Centre has three clinical streams; Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (CHW only), Family Service (SCH + CHW) and Adolescent Drug and Alcohol service (SCH + CHW). The successful applicants will gain experience in a lifespan approach to assessment and intervention for children and adolescents affected by drugs and alcohol. The Fellow also collaborates with Child and Adolescent Psychiatry services, Child Protection services, Developmental and Adolescent Community Services with particular focus on drug and alcohol services and vulnerable youth.

Selection Criteria:

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.

Registered with RACP as an Advanced Trainee. This may include General Paediatrics, Community Child Health, dual training in Adolescent & Young Adult Medicine, Chapter of Addiction Medicine and/or Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. It is preferable to be in the final years of advanced training.

Demonstrated capacity to work with vulnerable youth and their families.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals, children, adolescents and families and skills and experience working in a multidisciplinary team.

Demonstrated interest in Adolescent Medicine.

Demonstrated adaptability to the differing needs of children, adolescents, young adults and their families.

Demonstrated skills in teaching and a willingness to provide education and supervision to junior staff and students.

Demonstrated understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to undertake research.
