Provisional Fellow positions in Neonatology are available at The Children's Hospital at Westmead for the 2026 Clinical Year, from 02 February 2026 to 31 January 2027.
The Neonatal Fellowship Program at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead is a fully accredited program that strives to provide an environment that includes all facets of neonatal care with protected research time and close clinical and research supervision. It is suitable for Advanced Trainees wishing to pursue a career in Neonatology and provides exposure to cardiac, surgical and complex medical conditions that is an essential requirement for advanced training in Neonatology.
The unit is one of two designated units in NSW caring for infants with cardiac and surgical problems or complex medical conditions. Infants are referred from throughout the state of NSW, the Australian Capital Territory and surrounding islands. The unit is located within NSW’s largest paediatric hospital which allows exposure to a wide variety of complex medical and surgical conditions and contact with many sub-specialists. There is a comprehensive and extensive teaching and tutorial program within the hospital plus a number of computer and research related courses on offer. The unit focuses on encouraging novice researchers and postgraduate research degree enrolment and is affiliated with Sydney University.

Selection Criteria:

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category

Registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians as an Advanced Trainee or equivalent
-
At least 12 months experience in Level III newborn intensive care at advanced trainee/equivalent level or above; demonstrating proficiency in neonate resuscitation, advanced airway management including intubation & mechanical ventilation, insertion of peripheral & umbilical arterial & venous lines

Demonstrated commitment to further education, professional development and teaching

Experience in multidisciplinary management of surgical and cardiac conditions in the newborn

Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with effective communication skills

Understanding of research methodology and research experience

Understanding of Clinical Governance and demonstrated commitment to its application
