Pregnancy Family Conferencing Facilitator

Where you'll be working

Based at the Population and Community Health office at William St in Woolloomooloo, this exciting role works across the Health district with pregnant women and their supports. The position is based within the Counselling, Violence Prevention and Response team and is closely supported by the Pregnancy Family Conferencing Coordinator. Applications from suitably qualified and experienced Aboriginal workers are strongly encouraged and cultural support will be provided.

What you'll be doing

Perinatal (Pregnancy) Family Conferencing (PFC) is a strengths based, trauma informed program delivered in partnership with the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) that provides an empowering structured framework for families and services to have transparent conversations about child protection issues through the use of family conferencing in the perinatal period.

The role includes planning, coordinating, and implementing facilitation of pregnancy family conferencing.  This role requires in-depth levels of clinical expertise and  specialised knowledge within a psychosocial counselling and support model in order to provide high quality independent conference facilitation to pregnant women and their supports consistent with NSW Health, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards.

This role includes responsibilities for liaison across SESLHD perinatal services, organising Pregnancy Family Conferences in partnership with the PFC Coordinator, DCJ and other external stakeholders, provision of mentoring and support to casual facilitators as appropriate to skills and capabilities, development of service improvements including ensuring cultural safety, and provision of education to facilitators, health workers and interagency partners.

Selection Criteria: 

  1. Relevant qualification in Bachelor of Social Work which provides eligibility for membership of Australian Association of Social Workers OR Recognised 4 year Degree in Psychology and registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) OR tertiary Counselling qualifications with eligibility for appropriate association membership OR Education Centre Against Violence (ECAV) Aboriginal Qualification Pathway Graduate Certificate or Master of Social Work (Qualifying).
  2. Clinical experience in trauma specific service provision in violence, abuse and neglect with demonstrated ability to facilitate discussion about complex and contentious topics.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to professional education, clinical and cultural supervision with experience providing culturally responsive facilitation and if relevant to application, experience providing clinical supervision and leading education and teaching to staff and/or students.
  4. Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
  5. Demonstrated ability to provide high level clinical advice, education and support to others in providing service excellence.
  6. Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature.
  7. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes.
  8. Current drivers licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
