About the Opportunity
Join our team at Liverpool Hospital and play a pivotal role in establishing and operating a new Renal Transplant Unit that will transform the lives of patients with end-stage kidney disease. In this exciting and rewarding position, you will coordinate the living and cadaveric donor kidney transplant program, assess patients for the deceased donor transplant waiting list, and assist in the comprehensive work-up of both donors and recipients. Your responsibilities will include organising investigations, clinical reviews, pre-admission clinics, and education sessions, as well as contributing to the development of clinical protocols for renal transplantation management. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to participate in innovative clinical trials, advancing the future of transplantation care.

What You'll be Doing
transplant program and assessment of patients with end-stage kidney disease for the deceased donor transplant waiting list. Primary responsibilities include assisting in the work-up of both donors and recipients including organising investigations, clinical reviews and assessment, pre-admission clinics, education of staff, donors and recipients regarding transplantation, data collection and assistance with the development of clinical protocols relating to renal transplantation management. Participation in clinical trials will be required.

There will also be long term follow up care of kidney transplant recipients and live donors to be undertaken and data collated for ANZDATA and other reporting responsibilities. 

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is an expert practitioner who, through leadership facilitates evidence based practice. The CNC will promote a service which fosters clinical excellence, research and professional leadership. The CNC contributes to quality health care by collaborating with the health care providers and consumer groups, developing clinical practice standards and evaluating their outcomes. The CNC is responsible for providing services which facilitate effective management of the care in the given specialty.

 

 

Where You'll Be Working 
Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.

The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.

Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.

Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the UNSW Sydney and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.

  1. Hold current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia with Post Graduate Qualifications (preferably Nephrology) and a minimum of 5 years nursing experience, including at least 2 years specifically with transplant donors and recipients
  2. Demonstrated evidence of strategies used to maintain current knowledge of clinical practice advances and research in the relevant specialty
  3. Demonstrated ability to apply expert knowledge to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs
  5. Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise
  6. Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidenced based nursing care
  7. Demonstrated understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace
