John Hunter Hospital is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented Operations Assistants to join our dynamic team in the Perioperative Unit.

$62,033.01 - $63,652.64 p.a. + Superannuation + Salary Packaging

We have multiple opportunities for you to join our team on a permanent, temporary, full-time, part-time or casual basis. In this important role, you will provide essential operational support to ensure the efficient running of the operating theatre environment, assisting with equipment, supplies, and patient care during procedures.


Our ideal candidate:
The successful candidates will have a willingness to learn and develop their skill focussing on providing a premium service to the community. 
You will have the ability to manage time and tasks effectively with a key eye for detail. Availability and willingness to work on a 7-day rotating roster with capacity to work at short when required. All training is provided on the job where you will work alongside senior staff that will provide mentorship for the allocated training period.


Responsibilities of the role:
  • Confirm equipment needs with staff, assemble, and check for completeness, cleanliness, and functionality.
  • Identify and report faulty equipment, maintain supplies, and assist with inventory control.
  • Ensure cleaning and removal of soiled linen/waste between procedures and at the end of theatre lists.
  • Complete environmental cleaning as per ACORN standards and comply with infection control policies.
  • Maintain a safe environment, using proper manual handling techniques during patient transfers.
  • Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and support during surgeries, maintaining patient dignity.
  • Follow staff instructions during procedures and transport specimens safely using standard precautions.
  • Provide general support to the Perioperative Unit, assisting nursing and other staff as required.
