Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical/practitioners for the above position in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.  The position will be primarily located at Nepean Cancer Care Centre within the Department of Supportive & Palliative Care.

 

Successful applicants will be expected to provide admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient (including community) and on call specialty services as determined and required by the Department of Supportive & Palliative Care.  They will be responsible directly to the Head of Department, Supportive and Palliative Care, Nepean Cancer Care Centre, for the provision of Supportive and Palliative Care services including patient care, research and teaching as appropriate to the diagnosis and treatment of palliative care patients across the NBMLHD.

 

Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the District for clinical matters

 

The number of sessions will vary based on need and FTE. i.e., 1.0FTE may include 5 sessions of inpatient rounds and consults, 2 clinics, 1 session of domiciliary visits and 2 sessions of administration and research. The on-call roster will be approximately 1 in 4. The position is based at Nepean Cancer Care Centre but will include work at all hospitals and health centres in the NBMLHD.

 

Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

Selection Criteria

 

1.        Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and holds a current Drivers Licence class C or higher.

2.       Possess Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (FAChPM), Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997 and the Staff Specialists (NSW) Award.  Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.

3.       Sound clinical knowledge in Supportive and Palliative Care demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.

4.       High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.

5.       Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.

6.       Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including modelling of a high standard of professional behavior to junior medical staff.

7.       Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice including, but not limited to collection of Australian National Sub-Acute and Non-Acute Patient (AN-SNAP) data and understanding of Palliative Care Outcomes Collaboration (PCOC) data.

8.       Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied, or clinical research as required within the Department. 

 

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

 

Employees and Contractors must abide by the NSW Health Code of Conduct.
