Where you'll be working

The West Wyalong Health Service provides 24-hour accident and emergency and includes a hospital facility along with a range of community health services.

West Wyalong is a town located in the central west region of New South Wales at the cross roads of the Newell and Mid-Western Highways, just over 2 hours north of Wagga Wagga and 6.5 hours' drive from Sydney.

What you'll be doing

The GP VMO will provide contemporary comprehensive and professional specialist services in General Practice that are safe, effective, evidence based and patient centered.
Requirements of the role include

  • Admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth and on-call services as determined and required by MLHD
  • Attendance and availability during rostered work hours and whilst on-call including clinical handover, clinical supervision, teaching and for emergency and routine care as determined and required by MLHD
  • The provision of education and support to clinicians across multiple disciplines to achieve quality education and safe clinical practice.

Selection Criteria

  1. A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the RACGP/ ACRRM/RACP and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
  2. Minimum three (3) years post graduate clinical experience. Previous experience in Emergency Medicine, General Practice, Adult Internal Medicine, Paediatrics or Rural Medicine an advantage.
  3. Knowledge of contemporary clinical management and modern approaches in assessment and management of the broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions. Competence in performing the range of minor urgent procedures commonly undertaken in a rural emergency department including Advanced Life Support and Trauma management
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, and research and quality improvement.
  6. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to behaviours which align to the NSW Health CORE values and MLHD Values, goals and strategies.
