What you'll be doing
The Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs (MHAOD) Lived Experience Coordinator (LEC) is responsible for working with MHAOD services across Southern NSW Local Health District (the District) to develop a culture of consumer participation and implement systems and processes to ensure authentic and effective consumer engagement and participation at the individual, service and systemic levels. This includes participation in service planning, development, delivery, monitoring, evaluation and improvement. 

The MHAOD Lived Experience Coordinator (LEC) also provides professional support and guidance to MH Peer Workers and Consumer Advocates across the District.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Lived experience of mental illness and demonstrated capacity to represent consumers at all levels of the service as well as a well-developed understanding of health participation.
  2. Tertiary qualifications in health or social sciences relevant to mental health or extensive experience working in mental health or a combination of both study and experience.
  3. Demonstrated extensive understanding of strategic directions in the consumer movement and advocacy in mental health (including current State & National mental health policies and strategic directions).
  4. Demonstrated high level leadership skills and experience, including capacity to support and develop the consumer peer and consumer advocate workforce.
  5. Demonstrated high level problem solving and planning skills and the ability to develop and implement comprehensive improvement strategies for service delivery.
  6. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, communication, consultation, negotiations skills and conflict resolution skills and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective relationships and partnerships.
  7. Demonstrated competency in Microsoft computer applications and ability to analyse information and report against key performance indicators.
  8. Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers' licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.
