In 2024 Hunter New England Local Health District will be opening Baiyangbaiyaang, a statewide, comprehensive eating disorder treatment service comprising of 2 parts; a Residential Eating Disorders Centre (REDC) which is the first of its kind for NSW and an Eating Disorder Day Program (EDDP).
About the role:
The Level 3 Dietitian will be a member of the program therapy team, who will work collaboratively and under the guidance of the Level 4 and 5 Dietitians to ensure the nutrition and dietetics perspective is embedded into all aspects of service delivery. The service will be operational 7 days each week with flexible rostering including occasional weekend/evening work on a rotating roster.
Key responsibilities will include:
- The delivery and evaluation of a nutritional rehabilitation framework, to maximise client progress, identify and manage risks and work towards sustainable recovery outcomes. This includes the delivery of direct clinical care in both an individual and group format.
- Support the delivery and evaluation of a cook fresh food service system which complies with nutritional guidelines, food safety requirements and meets the therapeutic needs of people with eating disorders.
- Providing support, consultation/engagement to less experienced REDC staff members.
This is an exciting opportunity for a dietitian with experience working with eating disorders and who has a passion for working in a dynamic multidisciplinary team. As part of the REDC multidisciplinary team you demonstrate experience and competence in the treatment of eating disorders, using exceptional interpersonal skills and a flexible approach. You are passionate about improving services for people with an eating disorder and are confident in the value nutrition has in recovery. You demonstrate warmth and compassion for others through collaborative and respectful working, and have a commitment to partnering with clients and families. As a baiyangbaiyaang dietitian you are able to support the establishment of the role of dietetics in this treatment setting whilst valuing the contributions and perspectives of other professions.
The successful candidate will be supported professionally by the Senior REDC Dietitian and Level 4 REDC Dietitian and line managed by the baiyangbaiyaang Manager. Additional support will be provided through the wider nutrition and dietetics clinical network of Hunter New England Mental Health. This includes linkage with Nutrition and Dietetics Head of Discipline, access to regular supervision, bi-monthly District wide Mental health Dietitians meetings, access to ongoing education and professional development.
Commencement date to be confirmed. A whole of service training and team building will be provided prior to program commencement as part of orientation.

About REDC: Located in Charlestown this 12 bed, brand new, purpose- built facility will provide an innovative model of care for people 16 years and over, with an eating disorder in a homelike environment. A skilled multidisciplinary team will provide an intensive program of individual and group interventions, using a rehabilitation framework. Interventions will focus on specialist treatment for eating disorders together with addressing psychosocial disruption and overall quality of life.
About EDDP: Located at James Fletcher Hospital this service offers a group therapy program 4 days per week and is designed as an adjunct to ongoing care. Clients benefit from meal support at breakfast, morning tea and lunch as well as education and skills-based groups supporting clients to tackle challenges and build a life worth living.
Baiyangbaiyaang will be required to operate in conjunction with existing specialised tertiary services, with a broad range of stakeholders, both in public and private sectors. Operationally it will sit within Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD).
