Manning Base Hospital - Taree are pleased to announce the advertisement of our Supervised Practice Position (SPP), within the Hunter New England Local Health District.
Be part of the exciting journey ahead within the largest LHD within New South Wales, by becoming One of Six potential SP Medical Officers.

About the role
Eligible Junior Medical Officers, with demonstrated interest in a future of rural practice and in particular Rural Medical Training (for example Rural Generalist, Rural General Practice, General Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynaecology) are encouraged to apply to the role of Supervised Practice.
The twelve-month structured program will provide the JMO with ample opportunities to acquire knowledge, skills and experience in providing effective medical services to patients under supervision.
The Manning Base Hospital SPP will provide those who are inspired by improving the health care outcomes of regional Australians, with rotations in the following Health Education and Training Institute Accredited Terms - General Medicine (up to 3 terms), Emergency Medicine and Surgical Services (General Surgery, Orthopaedics or Obstetrics and Gynaecology). These terms are recognised by the Australian Heath Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA) as core requirements for General Registration (Standard Pathway) and therefore this role is suitable for those eligible for Provisional and or Limited Registration – Level 1 and Level 2.
Following completion of the SPP, Medical Officers will have the opportunity to apply for other roles within the facility such as Resident Medical Officer or Senior Resident Medical Officer positions that align with the Medical Officer’s chosen career pathway.
The applicant must have a commitment to rural practice and rural communities.
This role is scheduled to commence 8 September 2025.

Taree’s town name comes from the Aboriginal word Djarii, meaning Figtree. Taree is situated on the banks of the Manning River in the heart of the beautiful Manning Valley, Biripi Country. Manning Hospital consists of 180 beds and, within, provides an excellent range of specialist inpatient services including Emergency Medicine, Palliative Care, General Medicine, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Intensive Care, Psychiatry, Renal, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Anaesthesia, Rehabilitation Services, Urology and Oncology Services to the local communities of Taree, Forster, Tuncurry, Wingham, Gloucester and surrounding Lower Mid North Coast.
Manning Base Hospital treats approximately 28,000 inpatients, 35,000 Emergency Department patients and 90,700 outpatients each year.
With a population of over 97,237 (2022 Census) and with the median age of 62 years old, the Lower Mid North Coast Sector is projected to have the highest growth in the group aged of 85 years and over.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Candidate must not hold an intern position
- Demonstrates ability to work independently within a supervised clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills (at the required level of competency) and judgment.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of all members of the team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and other members of the health care team.
- Evidence of continuing professional development; and commitment to self-education, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
- Demonstrates computer literacy skills
- Documented preparedness and ability to participate in afterhours rosters, on call rosters and move between services and geographic locations as required by the employer or training network.
