About Us

NBMLHD’s Population Health Division is responsible for addressing primary and secondary disease prevention within the local community through Health Promotion, HIV and Related Programs Multicultural Health. Our work is delivered through individual service delivery, Population level health promotion programs and capacity building initiates to members of priority populations on priority issues.

An opportunity has become available for qualified Health Education Officer to join NBMLHD Population Health team. The BBV and Sexual Health Promotion Health Education/Promotion Officer works within the Needle and Syringe Program team and part of the broader BBV and Sexual Health Promotion (BBV & SHP) Team.

The role supports the delivery of activities that address sexual health, blood- borne viruses, and stigma and discrimination related to these. The activities supported include blood borne virus prevention and testing activities for people who inject drugs, the provisioning of NSP vending machines and outlets, needle clean-ups, delivery of safe injecting equipment to NSP clients, and other outreach services in line with the NSW Health Needle and Syringe Program Guidelines.

What you will bring to the role:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of sexual health issues, blood borne viruses, STIs and injecting drug use.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the harm minimisation approach to illicit drug use.
  3. Demonstrated experience in accurate collection and collation of information for reports and other documentation.
  4. Demonstrated problem solving skills and effective use of initiative.
  5. Demonstrated organisational skills with ability to prioritise and organise own workload in order to meet deadlines and targets.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  7. Valid unrestricted drivers' licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment
