About us:
Getting On Track In Time (GOT IT) is a school based mental health early intervention service for children in years Kindergarten – Year 2 who display emerging difficulties with social skills, emotional regulation and behavioural problems. The program works collaboratively with children, parents, carers and school staff. The key aims of the GOT IT program are to prevent mental illness and behavioural disorders in later life and improve educational outcomes.

About the role:
These positions are based at Wallsend Health Campus as part of a multidisciplinary team and is responsible for the delivery of a range of clinical services to children and families involved in the Got It program. This will include the facilitation of behavioural/developmental/emotion regulation/social skills group for children and the delivery of parenting program to their parents/carers. The clinician will liaise with and work closely with educational staff, particularly teachers and student support staff.

The role of a Mental Health Professional in this setting includes:
  • Undertake comprehensive assessment of identified children, as per the program model, and administer and interpret clinical outcome measurement tools. This may include providing relevant discipline specific assessments where required.
  • Provide evidence-based group interventions designed to develop social skills and emotional regulation skills in children and their parent/carers.
  • Work collaboratively with families, schools and other community agencies where indicated to provide the best possible outcome for consumer. This includes providing referrals for children requiring interventions beyond the scope of the Got It Program and facilitating initial access to other agencies and resources as required.
  • Support and enhance school-based understanding and identification of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties in order to reduce impact and prevalence. This includes development and delivery of teacher education, and consultation and liaison with student support staff.


As part of our supportive team, you'll receive guidance from experience mental health clinicians within the GOT IT team. These positions currently report directly to the CAMHS Service manager. Additionally, you'll benefit from regular clinical supervision and access to continuous training and educational programs, all designed to enhance your professional development and ensure your success in this role.

Requirements:

  • Must hold a qualification in one of the following: Occupational Therapy, Clin Psychology/clin psych in training, Nursing, Social Work, Counsellor (Degree in Bachelor of Health Science Mental health, Djirruwang Program), Nutrition and Dietetics which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association general registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. For a CNS2: relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years experience working in the clinical area of a post-graduate qualification.
  • Eligibility to drive in NSW and interstate and the willingness to travel in the course of employment.
