About the role:

As a Referral and Intake (RIC) Officer, you will be responsible for processing referrals and requests for information received via phone, the Referral Information Management System (RIMS), or email to support referrals to community-based services within the CACS HNELHD. You will appropriately direct callers to alternative services based on identified needs and maintain effective communication with service providers to ensure the delivery of suitable services for clients. Additionally, you will manage referrals through the My Aged Care (MAC) portal, ensuring smooth and efficient coordination of services.

The successful candidate will possess strong communication, documentation, technology, clinical reasoning, time management, and customer service skills. They will have an adaptable, easy-going nature with the ability to navigate change and a commitment to ensuring referred patients receive a positive, person-centred experience, leading to referrals to the most appropriate service. Prior experience in a call centre role would be beneficial.


Where you’ll be working:

The RIC service is co-located with the Planned Care for Better Health and Integrated Chronic Care for Aboriginal People Program (ICCAPP) teams and is operationally managed by a Nurse Manager. It is based at the Adamstown site (Cnr Kyle and Gosford Rds) in Newcastle, NSW.

Operating Monday to Friday, from 8:00am to 4:30pm, this service does not require shift work and is closed on weekends and public holidays.

The staff consists of Enrolled and Registered Nurses, along with a PFT Administration Officer, and is renowned for its supportive, friendly, and compassionate culture. The team actively celebrate major calendar events, while ensuring patients receive the right services, at the right time, and in the right place throughout their care.

Additional information:

  • An eligibility list will be created for future permanent part time and temporary part time vacancies.
  • To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only be offered in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
