Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. The Nepean Campus has recently experienced tremendous growth and aims to support communities within and outside of Sydney’s western suburbs, providing world-class clinical facilities, services, and care.
The successful candidate will provide a high-quality diversional therapy intervention to consumers of NBMLHD Aged Care inpatient services. This encompasses ensuring effective and comprehensive assessment, treatment planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreational and leisure activities are provided to the clients. In addition, the interventions would be appropriate and designed to increase capacity of consumers in meaningful leisure time as part of a multi-disciplinary setting.
Your role will involve working collaboratively with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to deliver a program which meets the needs of the patient group during their stay on the inpatient unit. The Diversional Therapist is also responsible for undertaking designated administrative tasks necessary to support service delivery.

What you will bring to the role
- Recognised Health Science or Applied Science bachelor’s degree in Leisure, Recreation or Diversional Therapy recognised by Diversional and Recreation Therapy Association with eligibility for full membership with Diversional and Recreation Therapy Australia or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating appropriate leisure and recreation activity group programs for patients with chronic and complex care needs.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team including case planning and review and demonstrated ability to work autonomously with minimal direct supervision.
- Demonstrated effective time management and ability to plan and prioritise workload.
- Demonstrated effective written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated computer and technology skills including the ability to understand and efficiently use emerging technologies (including electronic medical records, word processing and databases).
- Demonstrated experience in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and commitment to continuous professional development.
- Current driver licence valid within NSW and willingness to use for work purposes.
