Acute Inpatient Service Operational Nurse Manger/Deputy Director of Nursing and Midwifery

The Role:

We are seeking a passionate, driven, and experienced Operational Nurse Manager / Deputy Director of Nursing & Midwifery to join the Maitland Hospital Nursing & Midwifery Leadership Team. In this key role, you will provide operational management and clinical leadership for our adult inpatient services. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-centered care, in line with our organisational values and the Excellence framework.

As Operational Nurse Manager / Deputy Director of Nursing & Midwifery, you'll collaborate closely with Nurse Managers, Nursing Unit Managers, and the Director of Nursing & Midwifery to uphold the highest standards of care for every patient, every time. You’ll be a key driver of clinical service quality, professional development, and continuous improvement, ensuring a supportive, compassionate, and growth-oriented environment for both staff and patients.


You will also:

  • Oversee the operational management of adult inpatient services, ensuring high standards of clinical care.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to foster collaborative relationships that enhance patient experiences.
  • Support and mentor Nursing Unit Managers and staff, with a focus on professional growth and service excellence.
  • Participate in leadership and strategic decision-making alongside the hospital’s Executive Team.
  • Drive continuous quality improvement initiatives and support the achievement of performance goals.

Located in the scenic suburb of Metford, Maitland Hospital is a rural referral facility offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including Emergency, Intensive Care, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, General Medicine, Maternity, Paediatrics, Oncology, and Palliative Care. Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
