This position has operational accountability for the physiotherapy service within the St George Hospital and reports operationally to the General Manger or delegate and has professional accountability to the SESLHD Physiotherapy Advisor.

The Department Head will provide operational direction, lead, guide and manage the physiotherapy service across the St George Hospital and facilitate the implementation of high levels of clinical expertise in order to provide high quality care to patients/clients and their carers consistent with NSW Ministry of Health (MoH) and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards. The position contributes directly to the development of policy, with consideration of the strategic context.

Selection Criteria

  1. Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award, current registration with AHPRA and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning.
  2. Extensive clinical and leadership experience as a practising physiotherapist.
  3. Demonstrated ability to provide high level of guidance, leadership and management of resources and services equivalent to the intricacies of this role.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature.
  5. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and demonstrated application of evidence-based practice within physiotherapy.
  6. Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
  7. Current drivers licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
