Where you'll be working
SESLHD Drug and Alcohol (D&A) Service offers a range of treatment and support services for people with problems from their alcohol, prescription or illicit drug use, and/or their families and carers. Outpatient D&A services are located in clinics at the Langton Centre in Surry Hills, St George Hospital in Kogarah, and Caringbah Community Health Centre at Sutherland Hospital. Inpatient D&A services are provided at Sydney Hospital, Prince of Wales, St George and Sutherland Hospitals.
The Role
The Counselling Team Leader will provide leadership as well as managerial functions to the Counselling Unit within the St George D&A Service. The position provides high levels of clinical expertise to facilitate high quality care to clients, and their carers, consistent with NSW Ministry of Health (MoH) and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards. The position contributes directly to the development of policy, with consideration of the strategic context. It will also provide managerial functions such as rostering, performance and talent support, risk identification and mitigation, as well as people management.

Selection Criteria
- Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award and eligible for practising membership of AASWA(Social Work) or PACFA (Counselling) or for Psychology; Recognised 4 year degree in Psychology and full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) along with 8 years equivalent experience post full registration, and demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development.
- Extensive post graduate clinical experience in Drug and Alcohol treatment and support or community work with relevant clinical experience.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high level of guidance, leadership and management of resources and services equivalent to the intricacies of the role.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and demonstrated application of evidence-based practice within their clinical area.
- Negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
