ABOUT THE ROLE

Provide high level strategic advice in relation to Chaplaincy Services and issues of religion, culture and faith that are relevant to NSW Ambulance and its employees.

 

Provide direction to and coordinate the activities of the state-wide Chaplaincy Team on behalf of the People and Culture Directorate and in consultation with line Managers and Supervisors, provide early access to chaplaincy support to assist in promoting the emotional and psychological wellbeing of NSW Ambulance staff including volunteers and their families, members of NSW Ambulance Legacy, patients and their families and bystanders to traumatic incidents. Research, develop and implement policies, procedures, systems and practices for these services.

 

Work with the Director Staff Health Chief Psychologist, Coordinator Peer Support, Coordinator Family Support Network and Coordinator NSW Ambulance Legacy, to help ensure an integrated and consistent approach for organisational support services which reflect best practice.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for candidates with the below experience and capabilities:

  • Proven experience in chaplaincy services, pastoral care, or a related field, with a deep understanding of supporting people in high-stress, traumatic environments.
  • Strong leadership abilities with experience in managing a diverse team, providing direction, training, and fostering professional development.
  • The ability to respond to the emotional and psychological needs of staff, volunteers, families, and others in a respectful, culturally sensitive manner.
  • A team-oriented mindset, with the ability to work closely with senior managers, mental health professionals, and external agencies to provide comprehensive support.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate and implement policies and procedures effectively.
  • Given the demanding nature of the work, a commitment to personal wellbeing, resilience, and ongoing professional development is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior chaplaincy or pastoral care role, particularly in emergency services or high-pressure environments.
  • Training or experience in grief and loss support, mental health, and trauma-informed care is highly desirable.
