- Specialist Focus: ACC addresses extreme trauma, attachment issues, and challenging behaviours in children aged 0-18.
- Multi-Disciplinary Approach: Teams provide systemic interventions, therapy, and support for children and their care systems.
- Clinical Expertise: Emphasis on trauma-informed care, attachment theory, and evidence-based interventions like DBT and TF-CBT.
- Collaborative Role: Coordination with NGOs, carers, schools, and professionals ensures holistic care for each client.
- Education & Advocacy: Promotes awareness of mental health needs in out-of-home care through training, research, and community engagement.
What you'll be doing
The Clinical Psychologist role at the Alternate Care Clinic (ACC) involves providing specialised mental health services for children and young people in out-of-home care with complex needs. The position focuses on trauma-informed, systemic, and evidence-based approaches.
- Comprehensive Assessments: Evaluate children’s needs and care systems to develop tailored treatment plans.
- Therapeutic Interventions: Provide individual, group, and family therapy, focusing on trauma, attachment, and mental health.
- Collaboration: Coordinate care among carers, NGOs, schools, and other stakeholders for holistic support.
- Education & Advocacy: Train professionals, raise awareness of trauma impacts, and promote attachment-sensitive care.
- Research & Development: Contribute to programme evaluation, policy development, and staff supervision initiatives.

Essential Criteria
Qualification: Accredited post-graduate Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology
Registration: Full registration as a Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Selection Criteria
- Extensive experience in working therapeutically with children and young people with significant behavioural, emotional, mental health and/or psychosocial difficulties.
- Clinical experience working with children or adolescents in out-of-home-care and/or the child protection system.
- Specialised knowledge in areas such as trauma, attachment and systemic interventions including experience in providing family therapy and an awareness of evidenced based therapies such as TF-CBT, DBT, EMDR.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and with other service providers to achieve optimal outcomes for children, young people and their families.
- Demonstrated capacity to provide consultation, supervision and training to other professionals including more junior health professionals and students.
- Current valid NSW drivers licence and willingness to use it for work purposes.
