The Safeguards Team is a new, community-based Child, Adolescent, and Youth Acute Mental Health Service, offering rapid, flexible, and mobile care to young people aged 0-17 in acute mental health distress. Working within an integrated model alongside the adult Acute Care Team (ACT), Safeguards emphasis a holistic approach to mental health, involving families and carers throughout the care process. Moving towards operating 7 days a week with extended hours on weekdays, Safeguards provides in-person, telephone, and audio-visual support to young people in diverse settings including schools, homes and communities. The Clinical Nurse Specialist on the Safeguards Team has high level clinical nursing knowledge, experience and skills in providing complex nursing care to young people with minimum direct supervision.
