Where you'll be working
The South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) Drug and Alcohol Services provides compassionate, confidential, and client-centred care for individuals impacted by substance use, including alcohol, opioids, cannabis, stimulants, and prescription medications. Our multidisciplinary teams offer a wide range of services such as withdrawal support, counselling, medication-assisted treatment, hospital-based services, court diversion programs, mental health support, and specialised care for pregnant women. Services are available at key locations including The Langton Centre (Surry Hills), St George Hospital (Kogarah), and Sutherland Hospital (Caringbah), with options for in-person, outreach, and virtual care
What you'll be doing
SESLHD Drug and Alcohol Service offers a range of treatment and support services for people with problems from their alcohol, prescription or illicit drug use, and/or their families and carers.
Our goal is to improve health, wellbeing and social outcomes for individuals, families and the community, related to drug and alcohol use.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant is a Registered Nurse who has responsibility for the delivery of specialist drug and alcohol nursing consultancy services in hospital and inpatient mental health settings in accordance with the NSW Health Hospital Drug & Alcohol Consultation Liaison Model of Care. The position delivers clinical leadership and education, and participates in research, quality improvement activities and clinical services planning in accordance with the criteria for a Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1 as per the NSW Public Health System Nurses and Midwives (State) Award. The position may be required to work across multiple SESLHD locations, including Prince of Wales Hospital, St George Hospital and Sutherland Hospital, and work day shifts Monday to Friday inclusive.
Selection Criteria
- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and current NSW Driver’s License.
- Minimum 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience and in addition who has approved post registration nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which he/she is appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate.
- Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaborate within a multidisciplinary frame work with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
- Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and knowledge of the practice development framework to clinical practice.
- Demonstrated involvement in the development /change of clinical practice underpinned by evidence based research.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.
- Proven skills in clinical teaching, the identification of education needs in the clinical area, and competency in the use of contemporary information systems.
- Ability to apply clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy with the ability to work independently.
