The McGrath Foundation, along with your Local Health District (LHD), is dedicated to supporting and encouraging you in pursuing post-graduate qualifications in gastrointestinal care studies. The structured Associate Pathway offered by the McGrath Foundation provides you with the necessary resources and guidance to advance your expertise in gastrointestinal care nursing. This focus on ongoing education not only promotes your professional growth but also helps you stay updated with the latest practices and advancements in the field, enabling you to offer dynamic and effective patient care. Where you'll be working: 

Located in Maitland, our facility operates exclusively during daytime hours from Monday to Friday, with additional outpatient services and some travel to Muswellbrook is required. Established in 2022, our centre features a stunning design with floor-to-ceiling windows that provide breathtaking views of the surrounding bushland. Set within this tranquil environment, our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility is outfitted with top-tier technology and amenities, ensuring our patients receive the highest standard of care in a peaceful and restorative setting.

Maitland Hospital is designed to offer high-quality care in a modern and comfortable environment, incorporating advanced technology and innovative practices to improve health outcomes. Situated in the picturesque Lower Hunter Valley, it boasts a charming riverine landscape and historic buildings. The area provides a variety of affordable housing options and excellent local public and private schools. Maitland is conveniently connected by road, rail, and air, located less than two hours north of Sydney, just 15 minutes from Hunter Valley Wine Country, and 30 minutes from Newcastle.


About you: 

  • You listen with empathy, taking the time to truly understand and validate the patient's fears and hopes throughout their journey.
  • You act as a reliable confidant, honouring the patient's privacy and keeping their medical information confidential.
  • You remain committed to continuous learning and staying current with the latest updates and training, ensuring you offer the most knowledgeable support and care.


Essential Requirements:

  • A Registered Nurse with current Authority to Practice with AHPRA who has at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience in either surgical or medical oncology, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in gastrointestinal or cancer care or related discipline. In addition, you must have approved postgraduate nursing qualifications in gastrointestinal care nursing or cancer nursing (minimum first unit of post graduate certificate), or willingness if deemed necessary to complete the post graduate certificate in gastrointestinal care nursing, and an eligibility to drive in NSW.
  • Eligible to drive in NSW with a current unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence.
