The Role

The Associate Genetic Counsellor will work within the department of Clinical Genetics, providing genetic counselling and education of clients, triaging of referrals, organisation of clinic, education of health professionals and the community, and promotion of the HCC.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Post graduate qualification in genetic counselling and/or have attained “Board eligible” status in genetic counselling from the Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA).
  2. Demonstrated skills in the provision of genetic counselling services
  3. Broad knowledge and understanding of genetic counselling principles, including medical, genetic and psychosocial aspects
  4. Demonstrated highly developed skills in planning, prioritise and organising work activities to achieve time sensitive work outcomes
  5. Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to use health information systems Including but not limited to: Trakgene, MS excel, EMR programs e.g PowerChart.
  6. Ability to work as a sole practitioner and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  7. Highly developed communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with people from CALD backgrounds.
  8. Commitment to ongoing education and completion of certification as a genetic counsellor by the Human Genetics Society of Australasia.
