What You'll be Doing
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is educated and endorsed to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role. The NP role includes assessment and management using nursing knowledge and skills. The role may include, but is not limited to, the direct referral of patients to other health care professionals, prescribing medications and initiating and interpreting diagnostic investigations.

Campbelltown and Camden Hospitals, part of the South Western Sydney Local Health District, work together to provide comprehensive healthcare services to the Macarthur region.

 

Campbelltown Hospital, a leading tertiary facility, offers a wide range of services including cardiology, maternity, palliative care, respiratory medicine, emergency medicine, and aged-care services. It also features specialised Mental Health and Cancer facilities. Camden Hospital complements these services by specialising in care for older persons with acute or chronic health conditions, including rehabilitation, palliative care, geriatric evaluation and management, and psychogeriatric care.

 

 The hospitals share a close-knit, community-focused team dedicated to delivering safe, quality, and compassionate care. The ongoing multi-million dollar redevelopment at Campbelltown Hospital will further enhance its capabilities, introducing advanced equipment and amenities.

  2. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  3. Suitable applicants for nurse practitioner positions are to be clinically and professionally supported to undertake a NMBA-approved nurse practitioner master's degree or supported to meet course entry requirements at time of employment. Authorised by the NMBA in accordance with s95 of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (NSW) No 86a to use the protected title of 'Nurse Practitioner' and therefore utilise the extensions to clinical practice including prescribing, referral, diagnosis, initiation of diagnostics and discharge from care 
  4. Demonstrated ability to undertake comprehensive health assessments of patients within target populations in order to collect relevant clinical data to inform clinical and diagnostic decision making processes
  5. Demonstrated ability to articulate sound reasoning behind clinical, diagnostic and prescribing decisions that are informed by evidence based practice and made within a nursing context
  6. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs
  7. Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise
  8. Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical and reflective thinking, complex reasoning and analysis to guide assessments, clinical judgements and decisions whilst managing complete episodes of patient care
  9. Demonstrated ability to perform in a clinical leadership role evidenced by participation in practice development activities including mentoring, education, active participation in communities of practice, policy development, research and quality improvement
