Role: Advanced Trainee – Pathology - Haematology
What you’ll be doing
This position description is for haematology trainees in clinical, laboratory or joint positions. Clinical Haematology Advanced Trainees manage patients with a range of haematological conditions, including haemopoietic stem cell transplant patients at some centres, under the supervision of Specialist Haematologists. They will also investigate clinical haematology consultations and attend patients and donors in ambulatory care and outpatient settings.
Haematology Laboratory Advanced Trainees are responsible for liaison with scientific staff, participation in the interpretation and reporting of laboratory investigations with clinical follow up where indicated and the development of protocols for rational investigation of patients. They provide laboratory haematology and transfusion advice to medical staff; perform and report bone marrow biopsies; attend haematology outpatient clinics; participate in development of new laboratory tests and assist in bone marrow harvests in theatre.
It is desirable that new applicants to Haematology training can demonstrate experience in pathology or commitment to a career in haematology. Applicants already enrolled in Haematology training will need to demonstrate satisfactory progress.
Where you'll be working
Applicants will be expected to indicate whether their application is for clinical only, laboratory only, or joint training positions. Each applicant will need to supply a list ranking their preferred locations of work within NSW with their application. - MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
- A minimum of 12 months satisfactory full-time post-graduate experience, including recent demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in an Australian Health System or within the approved competent authority pathway.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment and work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team.
- Demonstrated evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education and commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and others members of the health care team.
- Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
