1. Develop proficiency in all aspects of laboratory haematology.
2. Liaise with scientific staff, participate in the interpretation of laboratory investigations with clinical follow up where indicated and the development of protocols for rational investigation of patients.
3. Provide Laboratory Haematology and transfusion advice to medical staff; report blood film morphology; perform and report bone marrows; report CSF and other body fluid cytospins; attend Haematology ward rounds.
4. Provide effective service to paediatric haematology patients under the supervision of the Consultant Haematologists with increasing autonomy, while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment.
5. Assist in ensuring that the haematology service provided to patients and their families in New South Wales and beyond is of the highest quality, sustainable flexible and transparent.
Selection Criteria:
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Registered (or registerable) with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia as an Advanced Trainee or equivalent; and/or registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
- Minimum of 48 months hospital based training. Previous experience in Paediatrics and/or Haematology preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals.
- Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, and willingness to participate in, the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff.
- Understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to undertake research proposal.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise and demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team.
