NETS, The Newborn & Paediatric Emergency Transport Service, is a statewide service of NSW Health, hosted by The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network. It is the only service of its kind in Australia; providing expert clinical advice, clinical co-ordination, emergency treatment and stabilisation and inter-hospital transport for very sick or injured babies and children up to the age of 16 years. NETS operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Of some 6,785 calls received per year, 3,994 are transported by NETS teams by road or air. Our teams travel via road, rotary and fixed wing. NETS is also a referral service, providing a forum for clinical triage for patients too sick for normal ambulance transfer between hospitals. NETS connects clinicians in referring and receiving hospitals in a telephone conference to discuss the best treatment and appropriateness of transfer or retrieval.

The Advanced Trainee is responsible for the delivery of the highest quality care to the paediatric patient and their family. Referring hospitals expect knowledge, skills and competencies which may exceed those available in the referring hospital. A high level of competency in assessment, treatment and procedural skills (such as cannulation, high level airway skills, chest tube thoracostomy, central line placement) is expected prior to employment. The care that is delivered should be individual and continually reviewed. The Advanced Trainee should be an active clinical resource contributing towards continuing education for themselves and their peers.

Positions are available for the 2025 Clinical Year, commencing from 03 February 2025. Please contact nets-dct@health.nsw.gov.au for further information about the position. Trainees who have completed their FRACP or other specialist training requirements may not be eligible for these positions.

  6. Able to work and function in the NETS operational environment as a NETS retrieval Trainee, fulfilling the scope of this role. Ability to demonstrate a level of physical fitness to complete relevant vehicle, rotary wing and fixed wing training including Emergency egress and Sea Survival training. A fitness test is required as a condition of appointment and employment.

  7. Have superior verbal and written communication skills.
