Where you will be working:
John Hunter is the largest hospital in the district, with approximately 650 beds (including John Hunter Children's Hospital) and covers the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Post Stephens geographical area. JHH is a Level 6, tertiary referral, major trauma and teaching hospital, servicing a population of more than 800,000 people.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Surgical Services Department and work within a dynamic and busy Perioperative Service Department, working alongside our team of Nurses, doctors, allied health and administration staff.
What you will be doing:
You will work closely with this multidisciplinary healthcare team, helping to coordinate patient care and maintain a well-organised clinic.
The role requires both independent work and strong teamwork.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing enquiries and answering incoming calls
- Accurately transferring messages and information to support patients and staff
- Preparing paperwork for clinics and surgical procedures
- Assisting with scanning and file management
- Supporting both the front desk reception and back-office administrative tasks
This role will cover the following set shifts: Monday and Tuesday 8.30am till 5pm and Friday 7.30am until 4pm.
A job-share arrangement may be considered and discussed during the interview process.
- Adaptable and proactive, with the ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced setting
- Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Tech-savvy, with proficiency in electronic systems and computer software
- A strong communicator, capable of interacting effectively with patients, families, and clinical staff
- While experience with medical terminology is preferred, it is not essential and can be learned on the job.
