Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is seeking an experienced and passionate Aboriginal Workforce Coordinator to lead, implement, and drive strategic initiatives focused on increasing the employment, development, and retention of Aboriginal people in the health workforce. About the Role

The Aboriginal Workforce Coordinator is a pivotal role within WSLHD, dedicated to improving employment outcomes for Aboriginal people and contributing to broader health equity initiatives. This position focuses on creating sustainable employment pathways, professional development opportunities, and culturally safe workplaces for Aboriginal staff across the organisation.

  • Working closely with internal teams, community partners, and Aboriginal staff, you will help build an inclusive, supportive environment throughout the recruitment, onboarding, and employment journey.
  • Based at Mount Druitt Hospital and reporting to the Director Aboriginal Health Strategy, this role will work in strong partnership with People & Culture at Cumberland Hospital with a focus on developing and delivering culturally safe, inclusive recruitment and talent acquisition strategies that drive meaningful Aboriginal employment outcomes.
  • Regular travel across hospital facilities and services within Western Sydney will be required to support workforce initiatives and engage directly with Aboriginal staff, communities, and stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation of the Aboriginal Workforce Strategy, focusing on career growth through training, employment, and development.
  • Identify and eliminate barriers in recruitment processes, embedding culturally safe practices throughout employment stages.
  • Collaborate with education and training providers to offer traineeships, apprenticeships, and graduate placement programs.
  • Provide mentorship and support to Aboriginal staff, including facilitating mentoring programs and promoting cultural representation.


About You:

  • A proud Aboriginal person with demonstrated leadership experience in Aboriginal workforce, health, or community roles.
  • Proven ability to engage, negotiate, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, history, and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal communities.
  • Exceptional project management and organisational skills, capable of handling multiple priorities.
  • Ability to influence and lead transformational workforce change within complex systems.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Western Sydney to various hospital facilities and services as required.

  2. Extensive knowledge of and experience within the current health environment within NSW; the interplay between Aboriginal culture, health status and health outcomes; and contemporary issues impacting on Aboriginal health and Aboriginal health workforce.
  3. Experience in developing, implementing and administering policies, projects and programs which impact Aboriginal employment and workforce planning.
  4. Proven ability to interpret and analyse complex information with advanced skills in data management and utilisation for problem solving and planning.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a positive, collaborative and supportive manner to achieve agreed outcomes.
  6. High level experience in all aspects of project management.
  7. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills including demonstrated capacity to consult and negotiate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  8. Demonstrated leadership experience, including recruitment and talent acquisition, with a focus on delivering culturally safe and inclusive outcomes.
