What you'll be doing
Join Western Sydney Local Health District’s Mental Health Services as a trainee mental health clinician. Work under supervision while studying towards a Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) and gain hands-on experience across diverse clinical settings. Other responsibilities include:

  • Working within a multidisciplinary team across inpatient and community settings
  • Undertaking supervised mental health assessments, care planning and interventions
  • SupportIng consumers through referrals and coordination of services
  • Developing clinical skills and knowledge via structured placements
  • Studying towards a nationally recognised degree while gaining practical experience

Selection Criteria:

  1. Identifies as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent with established links with their local Aboriginal community.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience working within Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities and knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal culture and the social and emotional issues experienced by the Aboriginal people
  3. An understanding of the health needs of Aboriginal peoples and a commitment to the improvement of health care of Aboriginal peoples in contact with the mental health system
  4. Willingness and commitment to undertake and successful achieve academic performance in the Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) course currently located at Charles Sturt University Wagga Wagga including undertaking travel for training and to attend University residential teaching blocks and placements
  5. Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work and study activities
  6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  7. Good written and oral communication skills and basic computer literacy or willingness to undertake training
  8. Current Australian Drivers Licence and willingness to use same for work purposes
