Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Cumberland and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. Brighter Beginnings is a collaboration between NSW Health and NSW Department of Education to provide health and development screening and assessment to preschool children in early education and childcare centres in western Sydney.
The Brighter Beginnings Aboriginal Health Practitioner works in a multidisciplinary team and contributes to the delivery of flexible, holistic and culturally sensitive health screening services to Aboriginal children to achieve better developmental health outcomes.
The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will provide a range of direct clinical services such as health and development screening of children and as defined by the Aboriginal Health Practitioner Scope of Practice and as demonstrated through competency assessment.

- Qualification: Holds a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice).
- Registration: Current authority to practice as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Evidence of Diversity claim if applicable (state which category): Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
Selection Criteria:
- This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a clinical team using initiative and expertise.
- Demonstrated community connection, engagement and commitment to Aboriginal health and understanding of the issues that impact on service delivery in relation to Aboriginal Health.
- Demonstrated local knowledge and understanding of the health issues and key policies that impact on Aboriginal communities.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary health service, in early childhood education or other relevant setting.
- Demonstrated excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use a wide range of computer-based applications.
- Current NSW Drivers Licence and willingness to use for work purposes.
