Northern Sydney Local Health District are looking for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers to join our casual pool.  You will be responsible to provide support and advocacy for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients within hospitals and community in the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD). The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers has an important role in the care, welfare and assistance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients accessing health services to ensure a culturally safe, appropriate and respectful patient journey.

Where you'll be working

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers will be based at the NSLHD Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Service Office and work across the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD). 
You will be supported by the Muru Dali Gili Gili Employee Network, that provides culturally appropriate connection, networking, peer support, mentoring, social events, activities and a celebration of the cultural and linguistic diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities at NSLHD.  The network also provides an opportunity to contribute to activities that advance inclusion, maximise workforce participation, enhance employee engagement and support career progression for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at NSLHD.

What you'll be doing
You will collaborate with various health services to deliver flexible, holistic, and culturally sensitive care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and communities, aiming to improve health outcomes and enhance access to healthcare services throughout the Northern Sydney Local Health District.   

  1. Must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage under section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, with knowledge and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander culture.
  2. Ability to liaise and consult with Government and non-Government agencies at all levels, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations.
  3. Hold a minimum of Certificate 4 in Aboriginal Primary Health Care and/or equivalent.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of the social, psychological and financial implications of hospitalisations for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.
  5. Knowledge of policies, programs and initiatives pertaining to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander holistic Health.
  6. Have an advanced knowledge of data analysis and computer literacy including excel.
