Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital is seeking Visiting Medical Officers in Anaesthesia to join its expanding department.

Updated in 2023 the Tamworth Anaesthetist agreement includes highly favourable conditions including:

  • The Visiting Medical Officer who works full-time equivalent hours will commit to working a minimum 1-in-16 on-call roster and such commitment will be assessed proportionately to the actual hours worked by the VMO.
  • The Visiting Medical Officer agrees to participate in a 24-hour roster consisting of two 12-hour shifts. The Anaesthetist receives a sessional hourly rate for Emergency on call – 24 hours.
  • The Visiting Medical Officer will be paid an additional hour each day worked where they are required to supervise and train accredited ANZCA and General Practice Anaesthetic Trainees.
  • Substantial relocation incentives

Tamworth Hospital is the major Referral Hospital providing services to the New England North West region of NSW, a population of some 175 000. Equipped with 348 treatment spaces, TRRH is the largest healthcare facility in NSW outside the Sydney-Wollongong-Newcastle metropolis. It hosts an 8-theatre operating complex (6 in current operation) and a recently opened outpatient clinic centre. TRRH is a (Level 3) regional trauma service - one of the three regional trauma centres referring to John Hunter Hospital. Our current team consists of 11 consultants, 1 Provisional Fellow, 5 Registrars / Advanced Trainees. Accredited training site with ANZCA – 104 weeks.

We are seeking consultants who are passionate about medicine in a regional area and are keen to enjoy a healthy, flexible work/life balance in one of Australia's fastest growing regions. Provisional Fellows seeking to secure their first consultant role post Fellowship are also encouraged to apply. 

You will provide contemporary, comprehensive and professional specialist services that are safe, effective, evidence based, and patient centred.
•    Admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth and on-call services as determined and required by HNELHD
•  Attendance and availability during rostered work hours and whilst on-call including clinical handover, clinical supervision, teaching and for emergency and routine care as determined and required by HNELHD
•    Provision of education and research as determined and required by HNELHD
 

  1. A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
  2. Evidence of being a medical expert, demonstrated by recent and comprehensive experience in Anaesthesia.
  3. Evidence of being a scholar, maintains medical professional development and has the ability to assist other staff, including trainees in the acquisition and development of knowledge.
  4. Evidence of being a skilled communicator, including both oral and written skills, communicating with patients, students, other health professionals and the public.
  5. Evidence of being a collaborator, including the ability to network and operate within an interdisciplinary framework and to work with other stakeholders in a variety of settings.
  6. Evidence of being a manager, including ability to be flexible and cope with a changing health system, past leadership and management experience and previous safety and quality improvement activities.
  7. Evidence of being a professional, including continued professional development, peer review and other forms of clinical governance.
  8. Evidence of being an advocate, including contributions to improving individual and societal health.
