The Specialty Opportunities:
  • G3 Cardiology and Gastroenterology: Focuses on cardiology and gastroenterology, with additional exposure to trauma, neurology, and orthopaedics. Provides training in cardiac monitoring and minor procedures.
  • Medical Assessment Coordination Unit (MACU): Focuses on the rapid assessment, diagnosis, and stabilisation of patients with acute medical conditions. It serves as an entry point for patients needing timely intervention and coordinated care. Nurses in MACU work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support swift patient transitions to appropriate care pathways.
  • E1 General Medicine: Provides comprehensive care for patients with diverse acute and chronic medical conditions. Nurses on E1 work closely with multidisciplinary teams, gaining broad experience in acute care, chronic disease management, and patient-centred support.
  • Rankin Park South: Leading rehabilitation unit. South Ward specialises in post-amputation and deconditioning care, offering goal-driven, multidisciplinary patient care.

The Facility:
As the only trauma centre outside of the Sydney Metropolitan area, The John Hunter Hospital provides tertiary emergency and trauma care specialised complex surgical and medical care to a population of over 900,000 community members from across Hunter New England Local Health District. As the largest teaching hospital within Hunter New England, the John Hunter Hospital partners with local tertiary training organisations and hosts the HNE Simulation Centre. With the construction of the new Innovation precinct underway – the future is exciting and opportunities endless.

Situated in the suburb of New Lambton Heights and only 10 kilometres from the city of Newcastle and some of the most amazing beaches and nature trails. No further than a 20-minute drive from the beautiful Lake Macquarie offering a relaxed lakeside lifestyle, and the world-class Hunter Valley Vineyards are less than an hour’s drive.
