Senior Reporting Analyst

The Cancer Institute NSW is the NSW Government’s cancer control agency, established to lessen the impact of cancer across the state.

What you’ll be doing 

To lead and oversee the production of timely, high-quality data, graphs and dashboards for reporting to support cancer-related health system monitoring and performance reporting initiatives. Work collaboratively with key internal stakeholders to continually improve reporting methodologies, efficiency and delivery. Ensure this process is supported with well documented standard operating procedures and relevant supporting documentation.

In addition to base salary: 

  • 11.5% superannuation 
  • 4 weeks annual leave (plus 17.5% leave loading)

  • A covering letter addressing the Essential Requirements, as outlined in the Role Description

Essential requirements 

  • Demonstrated experience managing data, information and the production of charts, tables and dashboards for reporting purposes. 
  • Strong skills and background in R and SQL programming languages. Experience building Power BI dashboards is essential and experience building Shiny apps will be regarded
  • The ability, a willingness and an aptitude to learn new technologies.
  • Tertiary qualifications in, computer science, data science, statistics, information management or other relevant discipline.

If successful for interview candidates must bring original copies of essential qualifications to be sighted by the panel, and one copy to provide to panel. 

Pre-screening questions 

  1. Describe a time when a key stakeholder requested a report with a tight turnaround and ambiguous requirements. How did you handle it?
  2. You’re working on a public-facing dashboard showing cancer mortality rates by postcode. Some postcodes show very small numbers, which could risk patient re-identification.Question:"How would you apply data suppression and aggregation techniques while still delivering meaningful insights? Who would you consult with, and how would you balance transparency with privacy?"
