Are you looking for a Critical Care Unaccredited Trainee year to develop your management of acutely unwell patients including highly sought-after anaesthetics experience?

The role is suitable for PGY4​+ junior medical staff seeking more experience in any of the critical care areas.  This includes JMOs planning to apply to ACEM, RACGP, and ACRRM registrars and JMOs still working out which of the Critical Care specialties is for them.

What you'll be doing:

The primary purpose of the Unaccredited Trainee in the Emergency Department is to provide clinical care, under appropriate supervision, to patients requiring emergency medical services in a complex clinical environment. This position will provide experience in a critical care environment and have responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice commensurate with the level of experience of the incumbent.

Rotations to anaesthetics and ICU are available with all rotations accredited by the relevant specialist College. This position meets the ED placement requirement for selection into the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) training program and the Provisional Training / Training Stage 1 requirements of the ACEM training program.

The position is suitable for trainees of other specialties seeking critical care experience including RACGP and ACRRM trainees and supports the completion of the Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) and Emergency Medicine Diploma (EMD) through ACEM. It is also suitable for those who are not enrolled in a training program with regular protected education and professional development support provided to all Unaccredited Trainees.

Contracts of up to two years duration are offered.
We are a hub for the AMC approved WBA program and our current waitlist for placement is less than 12 months.
  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team.
  4. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and others members of the health care team.
  5. Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  7. Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
