Anaesthesia/Simulation Provisional Fellows 2022
Department of Anaesthesia
John Hunter Hospital

•    Are you passionate about improving the safety and quality of patient care?
•    Join one of Australia’s most innovative and longest running simulation centres
•    Two positions available for ANZCA trainees

We invite applications to join the Hunter New England Simulation Centre team for the position of Provisional Fellow in Anaesthesia and Simulation.  Our faculty are passionate about improving the quality and safety of healthcare through the application of simulation as a training and research tool.  Our innovative simulation fellowship has each of over 30 fellows with a unique and individually tailored training program in healthcare education, human factors, and simulation experience.  Successful applicants can expect to gain exposure in a broad range of simulation activities including curriculum development, systems and equipment testing, debriefing and mentoring skills, outreach and in situ simulation, and research and evaluation techniques.

The positions (0.5FTE simulation, 0.5 FTE clinical anaesthesia), approved by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, are available for 12 months commencing February 2022.  A mid-year start is possible by negotiation.  Fellows will spend 50% of their time in clinical anaesthesia at the John Hunter Hospital with participation in the after-hours roster.

The HNE Simulation Centre, one of the busiest and longest running in Australia, is a world-class facility that delivers training each year to several thousand participants across all levels of experience and from diverse backgrounds.  Our participants include junior and senior doctors, midwives and nurses, students, paramedics, allied health clinicians, patient safety officers and managers from metropolitan, rural and remote areas.  The team regularly use simulation to test equipment, processes, systems and environments to make significant contributions to patient safety. This has included the identification of threats to patient safety using in situ simulation, development of multiple cognitive aids for the management of anaesthetic crises and regular human factors training for clinical staff.  The centre is supported by a faculty of more than 35 specialist doctors and nurses all of whom are dedicated to the enhancement of patient safety through simulation training and research.  For more information about the centre see the website or download an overview..

For further information or to register your interest please contact Dr Cate McIntosh (Director, HNE Simulation Centre) c/- the centre.
