St Vincent's South West BPT Network - AMR 2026 - Applications Close 07/12/2025

The St Vincent's South West BPT Network may offer 1 or 2 year contracts (as required for completion of basic training) to applicants who have completed their time in an accredited BPT role. All other applicants will be offered 3 year contracts, subject to change, with final rankings from the application process and service provision requirements determining the length of training contract that will be offered. Previous or current registration with RACP in non-BPT roles does not guarantee a 2 year contract.

Please also note that once a BPT offer is accepted, any application you make for any subsequent round BPT position during the 2026 AMR campaign will not be considered whilst you are holding that offer.

An exciting opportunity exists to join the St Vincent's South West BPT Network as a Basic Physician Trainee.

The St Vincent’s South West Network encompasses, Campbelltown Hospital, Bowral and Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital. We combine a long standing tradition of excellence in patient care and physician training in the most rapidly growing and dynamic medical environment in NSW, with an established centre of rural health excellence. 


What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the Basic Physician Trainee (BPT) is to provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment in inpatient and outpatient areas in the public health organisations within the Network.    
Basic Physician Training roles consist of rotations through medical departments, working under an appropriate level of supervision by consultants.  Rotations have different levels of responsibility and team structures.  BPTs will gain increasing clinical autonomy and accountability as team leaders throughout the course of the three-year training program, building on their skills and attributes with the goal of entering an Advanced Training program.  
  
BPTs undertaking the care of medical patients should ensure that they operate within their own level of expertise within a collaborative clinical care model and to seek consultation with the treating physician when appropriate, in the following activities:
  • Clinically assess patients, incorporating consultation/history taking, examination, and formulation of a differential diagnosis and management plans
  • Discuss diagnoses and management plans with patients and their families or carers
  • Document the progress of patients in multiple settings
  • Prescribe medications tailored to patients’ needs and conditions
  • Transfer care of patients
  • Choose, organise and interpret investigations
  • Assess and manage acutely unwell patients
  • Plan, prepare for, perform, and provide after care for important procedures



 

  1. MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. This role requires eligibility for or current registration as a Basic Physician Trainee with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and intent to obtain Fellowship of the RACP. What is your current RACP status?
  3. Qualifications and experience as outlined in the Essential Requirements for the role.
  4. Demonstrated recent relevant experience in clinical medicine and ability to work in a complex clinical environment.
  5. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills in dealings with patients, team members and supervisors.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning, teaching, research, quality improvement and clinical leadership in medicine.
  7. Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem-solving skills in a clinical setting within a multidisciplinary team.
  8. Proven ability to apply clinical knowledge and concepts in practical situations in the context of multiple competing priorities.
