What you'll be doing


The Level 6 Clinical Specialist Social Worker has recognised superior clinical expertise within the specialty of Gynaecological Oncology within the Women’s and Children’s Team and operates with an advanced level of clinical expertise and knowledge in the specialty and provides a  consultative role within the area of Gynaecological Oncology across Westmead Hospital.
 
The Level 6 Clinical Specialist Social Worker provides advanced level clinical services to Gynaecological Oncology patients with circumstances of a complex nature requiring advanced practice skills. The Social Worker is able to demonstrate advanced reasoning skills and operates autonomously with minimum direct clinical supervision.
 
The Level 6 Clinical Specialist Social Worker takes a lead in planning, building capacity and supporting clinical research, evidence based practice and quality improvement for the social work department. The position is responsible for quality assurance, development of better practice and clinical research within the facility, is actively involved in training and education and in the development and implementation of WSLHD protocols, initiatives, policies and procedures as well as contributing to their specialty clinical field.

The Level 6 Social Worker may be responsible for the clinical supervision and support of Level 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Social Workers and Social Work students.

Essential Criteria

Qualification: Degree in Social Work with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW).

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated high level clinical expertise and experience in Cancer Services and Women’s Health with an understanding of new diagnosis, advance care planning, bereavement, child protection and working with complex family dynamics.
  2. Demonstrated commitment to post graduate study and clinical research in social work and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development with demonstrated experience in staff and student supervision.
  3. Proven ability to integrate research, education and clinical care in the field of social work with demonstrated capacity for ongoing contribution to presenting papers at conferences.
  4. Experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures for service improvement and skills in providing training and education.
  5. Well-developed time management skills with excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing skills and high level computer literacy.
  6. Demonstrated excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels
  7. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and implement quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff.
  8. Participation in the After Hours Crisis On Call Social Work Service.
