What you'll be doing
The Dragonfly Midwife is responsible for the provision of evidence based and woman centred maternity care to Aboriginal women, women having an Aboriginal baby, and their partners and families through a continuity of Midwife model of care. Families will be residing in the Westmead Hospital catchment area. 
  • At Dragonfly Midwifery, you’ll work in a warm, community-based Outreach Clinic alongside three experienced midwives, a dedicated obstetrician, and a senior registrar—a close-knit team focused on delivering continuity of care and clinical excellence. 
  • You'll be supported by passionate Aboriginal Health Workers, ensuring that the care you provide is not only safe but deeply culturally respectful and responsive.
  • Dragonfly is embedded in the local community and proudly partners with Gunawirra, delivering holistic support through pregnancy groups and mums-and-bubs programs.

Essential Criteria:

  • Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) as a Registered Midwife (Division 1).

Selection Criteria:

  1. Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Midwife ( Division 1). Demonstrated extensive experience and clinical skill as a registered midwife.
  2. This is a targeted open Aboriginal Position. Preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander descent, have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with their local Aboriginal community. An applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and exemption is claimed under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW.
  3. Availability to work flexible hours.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of the broader Aboriginal Health issues including demonstrated understanding of the of the unique medical, physical, social and emotional issues in Aboriginal maternal and infant health.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of continuity of carer/primary health care models of midwifery care in addition to an explicit understanding of strengths based philosophy
  6. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a member of a multidisciplinary team with demonstrated effective teamwork and communication skills and demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work.
  7. Current Driver’s Licence valid in Australia and willingness to use for work purposes.
